How did you first get started with crochet toys?
My name is Anna Zetterberg and I live in Fontana, Ca. Art and crafts has been a part of my life from a very young age. I love trying every type of arts and crafts from drawing, jewelry making, painting to crochet and knitting.
I learned to crochet in 2012 right after Thanksgiving when I decided I was going to crochet socks for everyone in the family as Christmas presents. From that very day, I have been crocheting at least 5 days a week up until now. I also have started knitting earlier this year. I’m the kind of person who likes to learn as much as possible, especially when I really enjoy what I’m doing. I crave the knowledge and the challenge to do better once I’ve mastered something. That’s what keeps me going.
I started my business officially on June 7, 2013. It was a mix of handmade jewelry and crochet items. I have since then, retired my jewelry business and am concentrating on crochet and knit instead. My business name is a mixture of my name, Anna and my daughter’s name, Isabela, since she is the inspiration for my everything. AnnaBela Artistry was born.
What is your favorite piece of work, and why?
It’s really difficult for me to give one favorite creation that I’ve made because to me, each one is one of a kind. Each one has it’s own special challenges and each finished creation gives a different type of satisfaction. Every creation I make is a part of me. Even though it may be the same animal or pattern that I’ve made before, each one represents a part of my life. To choose just one, would really be too difficult.
Right now, I’ve been working on creating more Newborn Photo Props, Pet Clothing and Stuffed Toys since those are my best sellers. I’m also working on designing my Weighted Sensory Toys that also function as a cold/hot bag. I’m working hard on creating my own design and having them ready for the end of the year.
What are your hopes or plans for the future of your business?
My business is fairly new and I’m still learning the ropes to online selling and social media. I’m mainly a one person show besides my hubby being my financier and numbers guy, my daughter as my model and inspiration and our 3 doggies as waste management, quality control and security as well as models. I’m the jack of all trades, being the creator, designer, crocheter, knitter, photographer, advertiser, social media, data entry, inventory, etc.
I’m not here to make millions of dollars, because in order to do that, I would have to mass produce my creations. That’s not what I’m doing this for. I want to be the one who creates each piece that I sell. I want each creation to have a piece of me with it. Every aspect of it is handmade by me.
My goal for this business is to create products that people will love and treasure for a lifetime. My dream is to have people, many years from now, still have one of my creations when they’re old and grey. I want them to hold on to that one special item for years and years and later on, look back at all the memories they have created with one of my items. That is my ultimate goal.
Tell me something about yourself that other people don’t know
I suffer from depression, social and general anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Crochet and knitting have been an integral part of my therapy every day. I really believe that it has helped my everyday life in more ways that I can even explain.

Could you give aspiring artists reading this any words of wisdom or advice?
My words of advice to new businesses….hmmm…it’s really easy to get caught up into the focusing on selling as much as you can, as fast as you can. Doing everything to make a buck. Over extending yourself to the point where all you start to care about is making money or having more sales than the next person next to you. I always need to remind myself that I need to stay true to myself and to stay focused on my goals. To provide a great, quality product, excellent customer service and create a reliable, trust worthy business brand. Slow and steady is what right for me. So do what’s right for you.
Anna thank you so much for your time and sharing your story with our readers.
